REVIEW: Rivers of Light debuts at Animal Kingdom

Rivers of Light is the long-awaited Walt Disney World show that debuted at Animal Kingdom on Friday, February 17.

Last year we thought that Rivers of Light would be opening soon. My family visited several times throughout the year and as we planned each and every trip, I thought to myself, “Maybe this will be the trip that Rivers of Light opens.”

So when I got invited to the 2017 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (Land and Sea Event), I waited for a tentative itinerary. When it arrived a week or so before the conference, all my hopes were dashed that this would be the visit that we would get to see Rivers of Light.

The opening night reception was hosted by Go-Go Squeez in Animal Kingdom which happened to be the same place as last year. The schedule was to include the nighttime projection on the Tree of Life which my family had already seen several times. As attendees listened about Pandora and other happenings around the park, we were delighted to find out that we indeed would be seeing a showing of Rivers of Light alongside our families that very night.

Some of my photos show the splendor of Rivers of Light, but nothing in a photo prepares you for the immersive quality. As you sit in a darkened outdoor theater with beauty all around, you are treated to great music and story surrounded by real floats, water sprays, projections, and an array of spectacular colors.

IS THIS SHOW SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN: Yes. Because of the animals at Animal Kingdom, Disney kept this show relatively low-key. You will hear no loud fireworks or explosions. The area is dark, and the lights are kept low to help enhance the viewing experience.

The show opened on February 17, 2017, and fast passes are filling up quickly! While photos give you an idea what the show is like, if you want a viewing of the entire show check out our Video!

Thanks for following along on our Disney Adventure!

FTC requires me to say that I saw this show as part of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. I paid a reduced conference fee as part of the event.
